Keep Going: Trick Box
My first 3D game: you are a red box, and every level is a puzzle about getting it somewhere it doesn't want to go.
- Made
- Solo, without AI
- Engine
- Godot 4.2
- Status
- On itch.io, still "in development"
The problem
I had made small Python games and wanted to know if I could make a real 3D game on my own: levels, menus, saving, the whole thing.
What I built
It started in Unity as Just Keep Going (also on itch.io). Then I rebuilt the idea from scratch in Godot as Trick Box. Both self-taught, no AI.
- A level-based 3D puzzle game where you control a red box, with difficulty that ramps up level by level.
- Save logic that remembers your progress.
- Skins you can switch between, and a small options menu.
- Builds for Windows, Android and Linux, published on itch.io in August 2024.
How it works
- Scenes as levels. Each level is its own Godot scene. A scene manager holds the ordered list, so adding a level is: copy a level scene, edit it, add it to the list.
- GDScript for everything: movement, puzzle logic, saving progress and switching skins.
What went wrong / what I learned
Finishing is its own skill. It is still marked "in development" on itch.io. [Say why it stopped there, and what you would finish or cut today.]
Made solo, with no AI assistance, at 15. The itch.io page is tagged no-AI.
